GREEN POLICE
Pollution Observatory and environmental Law enforcement with the Internal security forces for the Conservation of the Lebanese Environment.

Under the EU-funded program “Promoting Community Policing in Lebanon” executed by FIIAPP and Civipol, Terre Liban (TL) partnered up with local NGOs “Ahla Fawda” / Beirut area, “Kouno Maana” / Chouf area and “Rinad” / Tripoli area.

This project aims to create a collaborative connection between the Lebanese Internal Security Forces (ISF), municipal Police and civil society to promote and defend Environmental Rights.

 

This project covers 4 components:

 

  • Component 1: Strengthening the capacity of local organizations to better monitor and promote Human Rights at the local level
    • TL participated conducted 3 ‘Promoting Eco citizenship engagement' trainings in the 3 targeted regions.
  • Component 2: Organising awareness-raising and visibility actions between security actors and the population (civil society)
    • TL developed a mechanism for the GREEN POLICE; a WebApp is developed to receive, monitor, and follow up environmental violations.
    • TL organised a planting intervention in the ISF Academy in Aramoun, were 300 trees were planted in the academy and 280 plants were distributed to participants to be planted in their households. This event was organised by TL and its local NGO partners (Ahla Fawda, Rinad, Kouno Maana) engaging students from schools and universities, ISF representatives, FIIAPP representatives, CIVIPOL representative and EU delegation representative.
    • TL is organising clean up activities, one in each targeted region.
  • Component 3: Reporting on the status of Human Rights with particular focus on real cases in which Human Rights need to be better protected by the police (ISF and MP) and by the population
    • TL is developing a Environmental Rights report
  • Component 4: Participating on the designing and the establishment of a CSO-ISF Institutional framework of cooperation to ensure regular partnership and communication.
    • TL is attending to Human Rights Coordination Mechanism meetings

Through this project TL targets to benefit through the first year 4000 citizens (direct participation in the proposed activities) and around 40.000 (indirect participation through social media) by promoting their environmental rights and encouraging their participation in the protection and preservation of their cities in collaboration with the local authorities (ISFs and municipalities).
